The funniest thing I read about an NFL team this week was in reference to the Jacksonville Jaguars, "Mascot Jaxson De Ville might be the team’s MVP.". Of course, after Sunday in Detroit that statement might actually not be an exageration.
One good thing about this week's results is that maybe, finally, we will no longer be hearing about how the Jets can make the playoffs. Admit it, the only way they will attend a playoff game this year is if they buy tickets. I read on the net that the Jets are "angry and frustrated"... gee, that is tough for them but how about the poor fools to actually spent their hard earned money to go see their performances. Maybe they too might be a bit "angry and frustrated".
It is so good being a Detroit Lions fan this year that I no longer feel masochistic. I almost felt sorry for the Jags this Sunday. Well, almost!
Mich Fits wrote to me after receiving the EofH, "Wow! Should Burrow and Stroud come through it’s two straight weeks on the podium! And the Lions win with ease…good week for sure" I was hoping for you Marc. Well, I would have been if I hadn't needed a Chargers victory to keep my hopes alive, but I was hoping for Stroud to lead the Texans to a win.
THE ROTTERS REPORT:
Internet Gremlins
Last week at the end of my report, I did some keyboard graphics showing how the new NFL playoff system would work then sent it off to the Rhino for his Wallow. Unfortunately, sending it by email to Rhino and his up load to the Piffle Web Page, the Internet Gremlins got a hold to the graphics and misaligned the works. I hope there was enough there for all to visualize the playoff brackets.
A week ago Friday, my internet provider moved my web page to a new server. Everything worked fine and I could see the page. When I uploaded the Email of Hope standings, it would go to the old web server not the new one. This meant no one could see the new standings. I emailed my provider about the problem which we both tried to resolve using emails. Things went from bad to worse from that point for the rest of the week. Eventually, even my email would not work. Last Friday, I got Jay (tech support for the provider) to phone me as was not able to receive emails. After about two hours on the phone, Jay and I got my email working and then got my FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program connecting to the new server. Everything is working now. Thanks, Jay.
For the record, my FTP program is “Core FTP LE” which is free to download. I like it because it operates much like the old DOS program “Norton Commander”. It has two panes on it, one showing the file directory on your computer and the other showing the file directory of the web page. Just grab a file with your mouse and move and drop from one pane to the other. Easy, Peasy.
During my discussions with Jay, we both agreed that I probably have the oldest, continuously used email address in BC (maybe even Canada). I have had my email address since the late 80’s. Almost 40 years.
The Email of Hope
After 11 weeks of play, D Man continues to lead with 11 Emails of Hope, Rhino and Muttley are tied for 2nd place having received 9 emails each. Watt’s Up is in fourth place with 8 emails.
For those of you who wish to see the Email of Hope standings, please click here. Note: the winning dollar amounts are a week behind as the winners are not known at time of writing. The Monica Award - It was soooo close for the XFailure this week. 1 point from his first winnings of the season and Tin Cup elimination. It may be painful but when you are that close you know that you had a shot at winning which many did not. Mich Fits was also 1 point from the money. It would not have been his first winnings but Marc was salivating at the thought of winning again. I suspect he was going to use his winnings to buy himself a Lions jersey for Christmas.
The POW Award - At one time I thought I might not even give out the Play of the Week award this week and then the Seahawks bested the 49ers. Only 3 franchises picked Seattle to win and #1 Fan, Dinky and Sassychassis certainly did well against the rest of the pool with this choice. Well done all of you!
The Celler Dweller - I think possible BadGasBrown forgot to change his clock recently. At the end of the week Bruce was in a different time zone than the rest of the pool. He ended up 21 points behind the next lowest finisher. Reread that - it was not a misprint - 21 points behind the person who was in 51st place. At the top of the pool Dinky earned more than twice as mony points as Bruce. That has to be a bit humiliating, or if not it should be.
Without further ado, this weeks winners, and we honour and congratulate them are....
1st Dinky - Richard responded to his EofH, "Most of you out there will agree with me on this one - it has been far too long since the Dinky has risen (to the top of the football pool is what I mean , what were you thinking?? ) The science, the stats and the rabbit foot were thrown out the window weeks ago and randomness along with horseshit luck were implemented in my picks. They are now my " go to's ". Go Houston Go! " Well, whatever it takes Richard and congratulations on being up for it!
2nd Muttley - It must be frustrating to be leading the pool after the Sunday night game and knowing that whatever happens (barring a MNF tie) you will end up in 2nd place. Maybe not as bad as BadassBrown knowing that whatever happens he is going to end up in the next area code at the end of the week but still a bit disconcerting. Oh well, Kristmas Kibble I guess!
3rd Rhino - I still don't care for the new scoring system but it seems to be working for me so I won't complain. It is so rare for me to have a good year that I am going to relish it.
4th Beau the Dope Kneel also brings a bit of kibble into the household. Of course Sandra is still the "Big Dawg" but every pup has his day. Just don't get caught chewing on her slipper, unless her foot is still in it!
My thought for this week, For those of you that don't want Alexa or Siri listening in on your conversation, they are making a male version, it doesn't listen to anything.
'Til next week then...
